We were invited to re-design the lower, main and second floors of this 1950s centre hall floor plan home.  The original main floor footprint extended farther than the second floor by 11’, so a new second floor addition was added over the majority of the main floor to accommodate a comfortable primary suite with walk-in closet and 4-piece ensuite as well as a new home office that doubles as a guest bedroom with an attached 3-piece ensuite and Murphy bed (not photographed).

The main floor was opened up by removing all interior partition walls along the back of the house to allow for an open concept, family and entertaining friendly atmosphere, from the new kitchen through to the central dining area and family room.

Light walls and white oak floors provide an airy backdrop to the earthy yet playful colour palette and mid-century modern furnishings and motifs.

Andi at Two Birds was instrumental in ensuring we had a stress-free full house remodel plus addition project that finished on budget and 2 weeks ahead of schedule. Not words that usually characterize a design and construction project but that was certainly our experience with Two Birds. From the first time we met Andi, we could tell she was listening to how we live and what we were trying to accomplish with our project while providing a unique design aesthetic that matched us perfectly. Working closely with our contractor, M-Squared Contracting, we could not have asked for a more seamless process. Andi and her team transformed our 1973 dark, compartmentalized family house into a bright, modern home.

With busy work and family schedules, my husband and I had 3 goals for this project: 1) completed on time 2) stay within budget; and 3) the final product met our family’s living needs. Andi came highly recommended and after meeting with her and other designers, it was clear she was going to be able to deliver on our 3 objectives.

Throughout the project, Two Birds demonstrated their professional project planning skills, shared design options that matched our vision and price point to ensure key decisions and purchases were made ahead of time. The end result was a successful project finished, exceeding our expectations and finalized ahead of schedule.

Two Birds also helped us select new furnishings for our home and ensured it not only met our lifestyle but also our budget. We would receive detailed and itemized budgets of all items purchased and what was remaining to be purchased so we could compare total spend to our budgeted costs. This was definitely helpful and appreciated.

Between the planning and execution phases, prices increased significantly on certain items. Andi worked directly with the contractor and her contacts who were  extremely helpful providing suggestions and alternatives that met our budget and design tastes.

Two Birds has developed strong relationships with their team and vendors who are focused on quality work. From the cabinetry to the closet organization to the hidden kickstands to reach high shelves, the craftsmanship and attention to detail was impressive.

We have subsequently referred Two Birds to our other friends who will be commencing their project in the new year. We cannot thank Andi, Tina, Maggie and the Two Birds team enough for turning our house into our forever home!
